Overview
Spectroscopic techniques are analytical methods that probe matter by measuring how it absorbs, emits, or scatters electromagnetic radiation across different wavelengths, from radio waves to X-rays. Because each substance interacts with light in characteristic ways, spectroscopy reveals the identity, structure, concentration, and physical properties of atoms and molecules. The family includes ultraviolet-visible, infrared, and Raman spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance, fluorescence, atomic absorption and emission, and mass spectrometry, among others, each suited to particular kinds of chemical or structural information. These techniques are essential across chemistry, materials science, pharmaceuticals, environmental analysis, and medicine, including imaging and quantification relevant to Radiation and Nuclear Medicine. Research in the publisher's portfolio applies spectroscopic and related analytical methods, including spectroscopic and calorimetric characterization of a treated cyclodextrin compound and a study of the structural, optical, and electron paramagnetic resonance properties of manganese-doped cadmium selenide nanocrystals. Such work illustrates how spectroscopy is used to characterize materials and compounds. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to spectroscopic techniques and their use in the identification, quantification, and structural analysis of materials and biological substances.
