Overview

Public Health Nutrition examines the relationship between diet, nutritional status, and population health, with emphasis on preventing malnutrition and diet-related disease at the community and systems levels. Research published in Public Health International addresses multiple dimensions of this field across diverse global settings. Studies have investigated nutritional challenges across the lifespan, including undernutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months in Rwanda, moderate acute malnutrition treatment outcomes at district health centers, and the diet and nutritional status of older adults in rural India and Brazilian nonagenarians. The journal has published work on micronutrient deficiencies in relation to household economic status in India, exclusive breastfeeding beliefs among low-income women in South Korea, and nutritional challenges faced by people living with HIV/AIDS in Rwanda. Additional research has examined knowledge and factors associated with overweight and obesity prevention among women, the integration of traditional maternal and child healthcare with national health systems, and barriers to implementing maternal and child health programs by community health workers. This body of work reflects the field's concern with understanding how social, economic, and health system factors shape nutritional outcomes in vulnerable populations worldwide.
