Overview
Public health is the field concerned with protecting and improving the health of populations and communities, rather than treating individual patients alone. It works through prevention, education, research, surveillance, and policy to reduce disease, injury, and health inequities and to promote wellbeing across whole populations. Core activities include monitoring health trends, controlling infectious diseases, addressing chronic conditions, improving access to care, and shaping the social, environmental, and behavioural conditions that determine health. Research published in Public Health International reflects this breadth, with studies on knowledge, attitudes, and practices around cardiovascular disease, community health needs assessment, tobacco control roadmaps and the public-health risks of e-cigarette use, the development of population-based colorectal cancer screening programs, data quality in health facilities, and the impact of climate change on public health. Further work addresses pandemic-era measures such as school reopening and face-mask adoption, vector-borne disease risks, and intersecting social and chronic-disease burdens. Together these contributions span infectious and non-communicable disease, health systems, prevention, and global and community health. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to public health and population health practice.
