Overview
Physical health refers to the state of bodily functioning and the absence of disease or injury, encompassing physiological systems, physical capacity, and overall somatic well-being. Research published in Public Health International examines physical health through multiple interconnected dimensions, investigating how occupational demands contribute to physical fatigue among social workers, the somatic consequences of emotional repression, and the relationship between chronic conditions such as diabetes and experiences of intimate partner violence. Studies address preventable conditions including overweight and obesity, exploring knowledge and associated factors among specific populations. The journal's work also examines physical health in the context of chronic disease management, including disability and health outcomes among individuals receiving long-term antiretroviral therapy, and quality of life perceptions among older persons with non-communicable diseases. Additional research investigates health outcomes among university students across academic semesters and the impact of social isolation restrictions on aging populations. This body of work underscores that physical health cannot be separated from mental health, social circumstances, and environmental factors, demonstrating the importance of comprehensive approaches that address violence, discrimination, stress, and social support alongside traditional biomedical interventions.
