Social Anxiety Disorder
Social anxiety disorder (SAD), also called social phobia, is an anxiety disorder characterized by intense feelings of anxiousness, fear, and self-consciousness when interacting with or being the focus of the attention of others. It can cause severe distress in social situations and interfere with a person's quality of life, leading to problems with relationships, school, or work. Treatment for social anxiety disorder may include cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, anti-anxiety medications, or a combination of these therapies. With proper treatment, many individuals are able to manage their symptoms and lead a more productive and enjoyable life.
