Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common mental disorder characterized by excessive worry, fear, and anxiety over a variety of topics. It is more severe than normal day-to-day concerns and causes significant impairment in the individual's ability to conduct normal daily activities. People with GAD experience persistent and excessive worrying, often about minor or routine issues and activities. Symptoms of GAD include restlessness, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. If left untreated, GAD can lead to serious physical and psychological problems. Treatment typically involves a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, and medications. With appropriate treatment, most people are able to manage their symptoms and lead a productive life.
