Adjustment Disorders
Adjustment disorder (AD) is a type of stress-related mental health condition which occurs when an individual struggles to cope with a particular life event or a change in their environment. It is characterized by emotional and behavioral symptoms such as anxiety, depression, restlessness, trouble sleeping, and feeling overwhelmed. AD is an important condition to recognize and treat as it can have significant impacts on an individual’s ability to function in their environment and can lead to further psychological issues. Fortunately, effective treatments exist and include psychotherapy, medications, and lifestyle changes.
