Viral Genome
The viral genome is the genetic material of a virus, which consists of either DNA or RNA. Viral genomes are responsible for the production of all of the virus’s functional components and are responsible for replicating the virus. Knowing the structure and function of a virus' genomic content is essential for understanding how the virus operates and spreads. This information is also key in developing antiviral treatments and vaccines, since knowing a virus' genetic makeup can help scientists identify the best targets for therapies.
