Protein Expression
Protein expression is the process of synthesizing proteins in an organism. It is widely used in the study of gene function, as well as in the production of therapeutic proteins, vaccines, and industrial enzymes. Protein expression is a complex process, involving transcription of DNA into messenger RNA molecules, which are then translated into polypeptide chains. The polypeptide chains are then folded and modified into functional proteins. Understanding protein expression can provide important insights into gene regulation, disease pathology, and drug design.
