Genetics and Genomics Gene Expression
Gene expression is the process by which the genetic information contained in DNA is converted into functional proteins, which are necessary for the development, growth and functioning of organisms. It is the fundamental process that determines the characteristics of each individual organism, including its physical and behavioral traits. By understanding gene expression, scientists have gained insight into the transmission of genetic information over generations and have been able to develop treatments for a wide range of genetic diseases. Gene expression is also an important tool in the development of crop varieties and the production of disease-resistant plants. With the advent of modern genomic techniques, gene expression being studied on a large scale, allowing us to gain a better understanding of how organisms respond to changes in their environment, as well as how they develop and evolve.
