Genetic Diseases
Genetic diseases are caused by mutations in genes, or by changes to the structure of chromosomes. They can be inherited from either parent or acquired during the person's lifetime. Examples of genetic diseases include cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease and sickle cell anemia. Genetic diseases may be treated with medications, gene therapy or lifestyle changes. They have significant societal and economic impacts due to their prevalence, and research is ongoing to find ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat them.
