Water-soluble Polymers for Pharmaceutical Applications
Water-soluble polymers are polymeric molecules, which when exposed to water, dissociate into many small molecules and are able to dissolve, forming a solution. These polymers have many applications in the pharmaceutical industry, due to their ability to control and stabilize drug delivery, improve drug solubility, and enhance the properties of drug particles. Water-soluble polymers are also used to facilitate the production of pharmaceutical formulations and help decrease the number of solvents needed during manufacture. Their use can result in improved drug efficacy, better pharmacokinetics, and improved safety. Aside from the pharmaceutical industry, water-soluble polymers are also used in personal care, food, agricultural and industrial products.
