Plant Biotechnology
Plant biotechnology is the application of scientific and engineering principles to the genetic modification of plants for a range of practical outcomes. Examples include the development of transgenic plants with increased drought and pest resistance, improved nutritional qualities, and enhanced production of oils or biofuels. Plant biotechnology is a powerful tool to improve existing crops and to develop new cultivars with desired characteristics. It is an important tool in the effort to address global food security and climate change.
