Plant Biochemistry
Plant biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes occurring within plants that enable them to maintain life. It is a branch of science that covers the role of biochemical processes in plant growth, metabolism, development and adaptation. Plant biochemists use techniques such as chromatography, mass spectrometry and molecular biology to study the chemical makeup and activity of plants. Plant biochemistry has a wide range of uses, including the optimization of agricultural processes, plant breeding and the development of pharmaceutical products. By studying plant biochemistry, scientists are able to improve crop yields, develop pest-resistant varieties and develop more effective drugs.
