Overview

Autecology is a branch of the science of ecology that focuses on the study of the interactions of an individual species with its environment. This includes the physical, chemical, and biotic factors that influence the species’ population size, distribution, abundances, and behavior. Autecology is important for understanding the balance of each species within an ecosystem, as well as for assessing the effects of human activities on an ecosystem. Autecology is also used for conservation and management of species so that sustainable solutions can be implemented.
