Overview
Pediatric oncology is the branch of medicine that studies and treats cancers in children. It is an important branch of medical science, as cancers that occur in children can be different from those that affect adults. Pediatric oncologists are specialists that are specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage pediatric cancer and provide supportive care to children and their families. Treatment usually involves a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, depending on the type and stage of cancer. Pediatric oncologists also provide comprehensive supportive care such as pain management, symptom management, nutrition, survivorship care, and psychosocial support.
