Overview
Chronic illness refer to medical conditions that last for a long period of time and often require long-term management. These illnesses are typically not cured, but rather managed over time. Examples of chronic illnesses can include respiratory conditions, mental health disorders, heart diseases and autoimmune diseases such as lupus. Chronic illnesses can cause significant physical, psychological and financial burden on individuals and their families. The treatment of chronic illnesses include a variety of approaches that are tailored to the individual’s needs, such as lifestyle modifications, medications, and psychosocial support. Early recognition and management of chronic illness can help to lessen the severity of the illness and improve the person’s quality of life.
