Child Abuse and Neglect
Child abuse and neglect is the mistreatment of children by their caregivers which involves psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. It can also include inadequate supervision, malnutrition, and/or failure to provide proper health care. Child abuse and neglect can have severe and long-lasting impacts on children’s mental and physical health, leading to poorer outcomes in life. Research has shown that this type of maltreatment is a major public health problem, with devastating implications for the social, economic, and emotional safety of our society. It is therefore essential that efforts are made to prevent child abuse and neglect, as well as to ensure that those who do suffer from it receive adequate support.
