Overview

The healthcare environment encompasses the physical, organizational, and social settings in which patient care is delivered, including facilities, systems, policies, and the interactions between providers and patients. Research published in Patient Care and Services examines multiple dimensions of this environment across diverse contexts and populations. Studies have evaluated quality improvement strategies in private healthcare facilities using structured assessment frameworks, explored models of person-centered care designed to promote health among older adults, and investigated systemic facilitators and barriers to healthcare access from the perspectives of managers and service providers working with elderly populations. Additional research has addressed infection control practices and their influence on screening behaviors among healthcare workers, particularly during public health emergencies, as well as the role of health literacy in supporting patient self-management of chronic conditions. This body of work demonstrates that the healthcare environment extends beyond physical infrastructure to include care delivery models, workforce practices, accessibility factors, and patient engagement strategies. Understanding these interconnected elements is essential for improving care quality, ensuring equitable access, protecting both patients and providers, and supporting effective health outcomes across different healthcare settings and populations.
