Zoonotic Parasites
Zoonotic parasites are parasites that can be transmitted from animals to humans. These can include viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoan, as well as parasitic worms. Zoonotic parasites are important to understand as they can cause serious illnesses, which can lead to disability or even death if not identified early and treated correctly. Understanding the ways that these parasites are spread is important for managing their effects, to reduce the risk of infection, and minimise harm. Some common zoonotic parasites include protozoan such as malaria, ticks, fleas and lice, and roundworms. The prevention of zoonotic parasitic diseases is an important part of public health, with good hygiene practices, properly cooked food and other measures important in reducing the spread of these infections.
