Wuchereria Bancrofti

Wuchereria bancrofti is a human parasite that is a major cause of lymphatic filariasis. It is a nematode worm that lives in the lymphatic system and can cause fever, lethargy, lymphedema and hydrocele. Wuchereria bancrofti is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito, and can have serious health consequences if not treated promptly. Its global distribution includes Africa, Asia, South America, and the Pacific Islands. Preventive measures such as use of mosquito nets, repellents, and insecticide-treated bednets are the most important strategies to reduce transmission of Wuchereria bancrofti. Treatment and control with drugs such as DEC is also used to control the transmission and spread of this parasite.
