Veterinary Parasitology

Veterinary Parasitology is the scientific study of parasites that infect animals, their effects on the host, how to detect them and the best methods of control. Veterinary Parasitology has significant implications for animal health, production and well-being, and is crucial for the safety of animals and humans alike. By understanding and managing parasitic diseases, veterinarians are able to reduce suffering and death among companion animals, livestock, and wildlife. It also helps to prevent the transmission of parasites from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases). Veterinary Parasitology is applied to limit the spread of parasites, to control diseases, to foster productivity and to improve animal health and welfare.
