Strongyloides
stercoralis Strongyloides stercoralis is a type of helminth, a parasitic roundworm. It can cause a serious and often deadly infection, called strongyloidiasis, in humans. It is most commonly seen in tropical and subtropical areas and can be contracted through contact with soil, often in areas with poor sanitation. Symptoms can be mild and asymptomatic or severe, and range from abdominal pain to coughing, fever, and difficulty breathing. Treatment includes medication and improved sanitation. Strongyloides stercoralis infection is a major health concern in many countries with poorer sanitation and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
