Plant Immunity
Plant immunity is a complex process that allows a plant to detect and defend itself from pathogens, such as viruses, fungi, and bacteria. It is an essential part of a plant’s defense system, ensuring the overall health and survival of the plant. Plant immunity relies on the interaction between plant defense proteins and the pathogens. For example, when the plant recognizes a pathogen, it produces and secretes defense proteins in the affected area. This triggers a cascade of events, one of which is the activation of defense pathways and the production of additional defense proteins, which ultimately leads to resistance against the pathogen. Plant immunity is important for crop production, allowing plants to survive and reproduce. Plant immunity also plays a major role in crop protection and preservation, helping to protect the crop from diseases and pests. Additionally, plant immunity is important for maintaining plant health and providing resistance to climate change.
