Pediculosis (Head Lice Infection)

Pediculosis is an infectious condition of the scalp caused by a tiny parasite called Head Lice. Symptoms of Head Lice infection include itching and irritation of the scalp, along with visible lice on the scalp or scalp hairs. It can be spread easily from person to person through direct contact and through sharing personal items such as hair brushes and hats. Treatment of Head Lice involves the use of medicated shampoos and other over-the-counter products to kill the lice. To prevent the spread of head lice, it is important to thoroughly cleanse personal items, wash bedding and clothing, and avoid head-to-head contact. Pediculosis is a common problem in communities, particularly amongst school-age children. Early recognition and prompt treatment can prevent the spread of head lice in the community.
