Oocytes

An oocyte is a type of female germ cell, which is found in the ovary of a mammal. Oocytes are responsible for forming the female gamete, or egg, necessary for reproduction. Oocytes are essential for fertility and the development of the embryo and fetus. They can be collected from the ovary for assisted reproductive technologies such as in-vitro fertilization (IVF). In IVF, oocytes are extracted, mixed with sperm, and then transferred to a uterus to potentially create a successful pregnancy. Oocytes are also a source of stem cells, which can be used in research and medical treatments such as regenerative medicine.
