Overview

Filarial worms are a group of parasitic worms that cause a wide range of diseases in humans and animals. They are commonly spread by mosquitoes and other biting insects, and can cause symptoms ranging from mild itching to severe infections and even death. Filarial worms are a major public health concern, especially in developing countries, and are responsible for millions of cases of illness each year. Treatment for filarial diseases can be expensive, and prevention measures, such as using insect repellents, are important for reducing infection rates. The development of drugs and vaccines against filarial worms is ongoing, and offers hope for controlling and eliminating these debilitating diseases.
