Entamoeba Histolytica
Entamoeba Histolytica is a single-celled protozoan parasite that infects the human intestine and is the cause of amoebic dysentery. It is considered to be one of the most significant protozoal pathogens in humans, as it is responsible for causing more than 50 million cases of dysentery and millions of deaths each year. It is spread through the consumption of contaminated food or water and is particularly dangerous for people in developing countries with poor sanitation. Treatment is available through antibiotics, but prompt identification and treatment is essential for successful outcomes. Entamoeba Histolytica may also play a role in some forms of colitis and has been linked to irritable bowel syndrome. As such, it is an important organism to recognize and research in order to improve health outcomes.
