Chloroplasts

Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells and algae. They are responsible for photosynthesis, the process of converting sunlight into energy to fuel the metabolic processes of the cell. Chloroplasts also contain chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for giving plants their green color. Chloroplasts are essential to our food supply, as they produce the oxygen we breathe and the carbohydrates we eat. They also serve as a source of energy for many organisms, including humans and animals. Chloroplasts are essential components of the photosynthetic process, and they play a key role in the global carbon cycle.
