Babesiosis
Babesiosis is an emerging tick-borne infectious disease caused by protozoal parasites of the Babesia genus. It is primarily found in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa and usually spreads through the bite of a tick carrying the Babesia parasite. Symptoms of babesiosis can vary from mild and flu-like to life-threatening, depending on the individual’s immune system. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, chills, sweating, and muscle aches. In more severe cases, symptoms may include anemia, jaundice, and organ failure. Early diagnosis and treatment of babesiosis is important since the disease can lead to complications, such as death. Treatment often involves a combination of antibiotics and antimalarial medications.
