Overview

Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery is a specialized field of plastic surgery that focuses on improving the cosmetic appearance or function of the face. It is used to correct congenital defects, trauma, cancer, and aging-related appearance changes. Facial plastic surgeons are trained to perform treatments such as rhinoplasty, facelift, eyelid surgery, chin and other facial implants, lip augmentation, and neck lifts to improve the overall appearance of the face. They also specialize in complex reconstructive techniques to repair facial defects caused by skin cancer, facial trauma, and other pathological processes. The techniques employed depend on the individual patient’s needs, but they often involve purposeful rearrangement of tissue, fat grafts, and skin grafts. Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery can have an immense impact on a patient’s quality of life, making it a critical component of modern medicine.
