Overview
Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a diseased or malfunctioning organ is replaced by a healthy one. It has the potential to drastically improve the quality of life of the recipient, with studies showing dramatic improvements in their physical and mental wellbeing. Transplants provide a second opportunity for those affected by illnesses such as kidney failure, heart disease, and liver disease and can extend lives significantly. This procedure has numerous medical, social, and financial benefits, and has proven to be a life-saving procedure for many. Advances in medical technology and increased access to donor organs have allowed organ transplantation to become more commonplace, and it is now seen as a viable treatment option for a range of diseases.
