Overview

Lung transplantation is a life-saving surgical procedure used to replace a diseased or failing lung with a healthy lung from a donor. This procedure can significantly improve the quality of life of those who have end-stage lung disease and can help them live longer and healthier lives. Lung transplantation can be used to treat a variety of diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and other life-threatening conditions. It is considered the only hope for many people who have exhausted all other therapeutic options. Despite its proven benefits, the risks and complexities associated with the procedure often pose a challenge to surgeons and physicians.
