Overview

Clinical trials are research studies conducted by health care professionals to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of new treatments, medications, or medical devices. They involve the participation of human volunteers, who are typically monitored closely over a period of time in order to assess the safety and efficacy of the new treatment. The results of clinical trials are used to determine whether a treatment is suitable for widespread use. Clinical trials also provide valuable information about diseases and treatments to both health care providers and the general public.
