Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic health condition characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood. It occurs when the body either does not produce enough insulin or when the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin. Without enough insulin, glucose remains in the bloodstream instead of being used for energy. Left untreated, Type 2 diabetes can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and blindness. By recognizing the signs and symptoms and taking steps to manage the condition, people with Type 2 diabetes can reduce their risk of serious health problems and enjoy a healthy life. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, such as physical activity, healthy eating, and weight loss, as well as medications to reduce blood sugar levels.
