Overview

Micronutrient deficiencies are a type of nutritional deficiency caused when the body does not get sufficient amounts of essential vitamins and minerals. These deficiencies can cause serious physical and cognitive problems, including weakening of the immune system, impaired development and growth, and increased risk of disease. Identifying and addressing micronutrient deficiencies can prevent malnutrition and lead to better health outcomes. Micronutrient supplementation and fortification of food and drinks can help ensure adequate intake, and more nutrition education can help improve awareness and reduce the risk of deficiencies.
