Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of conditions that happen when the body’s metabolism is not functioning properly. It is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and other health conditions. It is diagnosed with three or more of the following symptoms: high blood pressure, high fasting blood sugar, high triglycerides, low HDL levels, and increased waist circumference. Treatment of metabolic syndrome is initiated to improve metabolic function and reduce the risk of developing further health problems. Lifestyle modifications, such as physical activity, improved diet, and weight loss, are often recommended; medications may also be prescribed. Metabolic Syndrome is an important risk factor for long-term health, and appropriate diagnosis and management is key for reducing risk and improving outcomes.
