Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia is a condition where there is an abnormally high level of fats (lipids) in the blood. It is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is caused by a poor diet, sedentary lifestyle and bad cholesterol metabolism. Treatment involves lifestyle changes such as regular exercise and a healthy diet, as well as medications such as statins. Knowing one's lipid levels is key to managing and preventing cardiovascular disease. Hyperlipidemia is a serious condition and its consequences can be minimized if identified and managed early to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
