Overview

Neurological disorders can be caused by an injury, trauma or illness that affects the nervous system. These conditions can be debilitating for individuals and their ability to function on a daily basis. Thankfully, neuro occupational therapy is a field of study that can help those who have been affected by neurological disorders. Neuro occupational therapy involves the use of occupational therapy principles in the assessment and treatment of individuals who have been diagnosed with neurological conditions. The goal of this type of therapy is to help individuals with their daily living activities, work or school performances and leisure activities, among others. The neuro occupational therapist works with the individual to evaluate their strengths, weaknesses and their ability to participate in daily activities. After this evaluation, a customized treatment plan is created to help the individual improve his or her performance and quality of life. This treatment plan may include physical exercises or activities, cognitive exercises, or sensory stimulation, among others. In addition to helping the individual improve their daily living skills, neuro occupational therapy can also help improve their communication skills, as well as their social and emotional abilities, which can also be impacted by neurological disorders. To summarize, neuro occupational therapy is a critical field in helping patients manage their neurological disorders by providing specialized assessment and care for their unique needs. Those suffering from neurological disorders such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and other neurological conditions can benefit from neuro occupational therapy.
