Central Nervous System Physiology
The central nervous system (CNS) is the control center of the body and is composed of the brain and spinal cord. It helps coordinate and regulate almost all of the body’s functions and activities. Through the use of electrical signals and chemical messengers, the CNS processes information from the body and the environment, creating an intricate network of neural pathways which regulate the body’s movements and activities. By understanding more about its physiology, researchers can better understand how the CNS works to help treat neurological disorders, as well as create new therapies to improve the quality of life for those affected by neurological diseases.
