Autonomic Nervous System
The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is a part of the nervous system responsible for controlling and regulating bodily functions. It works unconsciously to control a variety of functions such as heart rate, respiration rate, digestion, perspiration, and more. The Autonomic Nervous System is divided into two branches, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The sympathetic nervous system speeds up body processes while the parasympathetic nervous system slows them down. By maintaining a balance between these two systems, the Autonomic Nervous System is able to regulate bodily functions and keep them in homeostasis. Understanding and managing the Autonomic Nervous System is essential for healthy living and is essential for medical practitioners to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions and illnesses.
