Overview

Normal kidney function is essential for maintaining good health. The kidneys filter the blood and remove waste products, excess fluid, and electrolytes from the body. They also help to regulate blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Kidneys also produce hormones that help to control blood calcium levels, regulate red blood cell production, and maintain bone health. Without healthy kidneys, a person can experience fatigue, kidney stones, and even renal failure. Poorly functioning kidneys are at risk of developing serious and potentially fatal diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Therefore, it is important to maintain good kidney function to ensure optimal health.
