Nephrology Dialysis and Renal Transplantation
Nephrology is the medical specialty of diagnosing and treating kidney (renal) disease, and dialysis and renal transplantation are its two primary methods of treatment. Dialysis is a process of filtering blood and removing waste products and water when the kidneys are not functioning adequately. Renal transplantation is the surgical replacement of the kidney with a healthy kidney from a donor. Both dialysis and renal transplantation offer the potential for improved quality of life, and importantly, they provide long-term access to life-saving treatment for people with kidney failure.
