Glomerular Filtration Rate
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a measure of kidney function and is used to assess kidney health. It indicates how much fluid and waste are being filtered from the blood by the glomeruli (tiny filters) of the kidneys. A low GFR suggests kidney damage, while a normal GFR indicates healthy kidneys. GFR is an important indicator of kidney function, as it helps to diagnose various kidney diseases and inform treatment decisions. As such, it is an important part of many medical diagnoses, particularly for those with a history of or risk for kidney disease.
