Dialysis and Kidney Transplantation
Dialysis and kidney transplantation are two important treatments for people with kidney failure. Dialysis is a medical procedure that removes waste, salt and water from the blood using a filter called a dialyzer, replacing the normal function of the kidneys. Kidney transplantation is the surgical process of replacing a damaged or failing kidney with a healthy kidney from a donor. Both treatments help the patient regain normal kidney function and improve their quality of life. Dialysis and kidney transplantation are life-saving treatments for those with kidney failure and significantly reduce the risk of death due to complications of kidney failure.
