Acute Tubular Necrosis
Acute Tubular Necrosis (ATN) is a medical condition in which the kidney tubules are damaged, leading to a decrease in their ability to filter the blood. This can cause a buildup of toxins in the body, electrolyte imbalances, and other potentially serious medical complications. ATN is most commonly caused by a lack of oxygen to the kidney, from conditions such as dehydration or shock. It can also be caused by certain medications, or as a side effect of medical treatments like dialysis. In some cases, it can be a sign of a more serious underlying condition such as sepsis or cancer. Treatment of ATN typically includes correcting the underlying cause and providing supportive care to the patient. Early diagnosis and treatment is important in order to prevent the progression of ATN and its potential severe consequences.
