Overview

Cancer pathology is the study of how cancer develops and how it affects the body. It is used to diagnose, stage and treat cancer. Pathology helps medical professionals understand the biologic behavior of cancer, and by doing so, they can develop patient-specific treatments that may help improve the outcome and quality of life of the cancer patient. It is a critical part of cancer care, as it enables medical professionals to accurately assess the extent of the cancer, stage the cancer, predict prognosis, and choose the most effective treatments.
