Systems Software

Systems software is a type of computer software that is designed to provide a platform for other software. Commonly, systems software serves as a bridge between applications and the underlying hardware components of a computer system, such as the processor, memory, storage, and input/output devices. Systems software includes the operating system, device drivers, compilers, interpreters, and system utilities – all of which are critical for the efficient operation of a computer system. It is also important in allowing users to access and use the applications, data, and other resources located on other systems on a network. By providing a secure, stable platform for all other software to run on, systems software is essential for the smooth and efficient running of computer systems.
