Overview
Salivary gland tumors are abnormal collections of cells that form in the salivary glands. They may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They can cause facial swelling, facial numbness, voice changes, pain in the area of the tumor, and difficulty swallowing. Treatment of salivary gland tumors depends on the type and stage. Surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy may be used. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve outcomes and reduce the risk of serious complications such as spreading of the tumor to other parts of the body.
