Overview

Biodiversity is the variety of life found on Earth. It includes all of the different species of plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms as well as the habitats in which they live. Biodiversity is essential for maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment. It provides many benefits, such as providing food and medicines, regulating the climate, purifying the water and air, providing recreation, and supporting the economy. The importance of biodiversity to humankind is emphasized by its inclusion in the United Nations 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. It is also the foundation for all of the ecosystem services we depend on to survive. Protecting biodiversity is essential to ensuring a healthy environment and world for future generations.
